Depending on the size of the image and the resolution of the display, the DPI can range from 384 ppi to 900 DPI. For example, a 24 inches display that shows a Full HD image (1920×1080) has a density equal to 91.79 PPI. For 4K images, if you scan your 4×6 photos at 600 DPI, you’ll be safe. Images typically captured by smartphones and digital cameras are at 72 DPI, which is sufficient for web images. However, it falls short for the printing industry. For printing, the DPI of images should be at least 300 DPI, with a recommendation of 450 or 600 DPI, to ensure better print quality. How to Use DPI Converter?
You need to supply one more fact: what size will the print be. You can create a new file in photoshop and work everything out. Example 11 inches x 15 inches RGB image area @ 240 dpi = 27.2 megapixels image file.
When an image is used at a smaller or larger size than it was originally captured (e.g. at 300% or at 25%) and the resolution changes accordingly, this new resolution is called effective resolution. For example, the original resolution in the photo of the dancer is 36 ppi, and the linear dimensions are 5 by 4 inches.
A full bed 8.5x11.7 scan at 1600 DPI is 250MP. If you scan things at 1600 and scale down to 400 DPI you'll be working with 16MP files when cropping or editing which are much easier to handle. The hardware resolutions for a V600 are 6400, 3200, 1600, 800, and 400. A scan at 300 DPI is just a 400 DPI scan scaled down.
